Following proper postoperative instructions after a facelift and neck lift is essential for supporting comfortable healing and protecting surgical results. Patients should keep the head elevated, avoid strenuous activity, and take prescribed medications exactly as directed. Swelling, bruising, tightness, and mild discomfort are common during early recovery and usually improve gradually. Incisions should be kept clean and cared for according to the surgeonโs recommendations. Avoid smoking, alcohol, excessive sun exposure, and unnecessary pressure on the face or neck. Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments so healing can be monitored and any concerns can be addressed promptly during the recovery period.
Facelift In Dubai
Facelift in Dubai is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve visible signs of facial aging by repositioning deeper tissues, tightening supportive structures, and removing or redraping excess skin. It may help address sagging cheeks, jowls, deep facial folds, loose skin, and reduced jawline definition. Different facelift techniques can be selected according to facial anatomy, skin quality, tissue laxity, and individual aesthetic goals. The procedure is generally performed under anesthesia and followed by a structured recovery period. Temporary swelling, bruising, tightness, and discomfort may occur during healing. A carefully planned facelift aims to create a smoother, firmer, and more refreshed appearance while maintaining natural facial proportions, expressions, and overall balance for long-lasting facial rejuvenation.
Necklift In Dubai
Necklift in Dubai is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve loose skin, excess tissue, visible neck bands, and reduced definition along the jawline and neck. The procedure may involve tightening underlying muscles, repositioning tissues, removing excess skin, and, when appropriate, addressing localized fat deposits. Treatment planning is based on neck anatomy, skin elasticity, tissue laxity, facial proportions, and individual aesthetic goals. A neck lift may be performed alone or combined with a facelift for more comprehensive rejuvenation of the lower face and neck. Recovery can include temporary swelling, bruising, tightness, and activity restrictions. A well-planned neck lift aims to create a smoother, firmer, and more defined neck contour while maintaining natural balance with the face and jawline.
Post-Operative Instructions for Facelift & Necklift
One Day Post Facelift & Neck Lift Surgery
- Facial Dressing: A dressing is applied around the head and neck for moderate compression. This dressing must be kept dry. Your surgeon will remove the dressing at your post-op day one visit.
- Head Elevation: Sleep on your back with your head elevated about 29-39 degrees (2-4 pillows). Avoid sleeping on your side. Elevate your head to help reduce swelling. Continue for two to four weeks depending on swelling.
- Physical Activity: You may be up and around the house the day of surgery and following. But stay away from all heavy exertion. โGetting out of bed and moving around can help prevent blood clots from forming.
- Facial Movement: Lessen facial/jaw movement. Chew, chat, and laugh less. Do not turn your head; if you must turn, turn with the shoulders and head as one.
- Post-Operative Day One Appointment: You will need a responsible adult to take you to your first office visit after surgery. Your surgeon will remove your dressing and some of the skin sutures at this session and will check on the status of your healing.
- Breathing: Take deep breaths often, at home and in the first day after surgery. This helps to increase the base of your lungs.
- Aquecoolโข Device: We will instruct you on how to apply the Aquecoolโข masque in our office the day after your operation. The Aquecoolโข is a special cooling device that assists in dramatically reducing swelling and discomfort after a face/neck lift. When you get home, leave the masque on and plug it into the Aquecoolโข machine. Start using the machine. Use as much of it as you can to get the most benefit from it. If the Aquecoolโข masque feels uncomfortable, you may reposition the masque or take small breaks from using the device. You are recommended to use the Aquecoolโข machine for three days and return the machine. Please return the machine in a timely manner, or the Aquecoolโข rental company may apply late fees.
- Head Sling: Keep your head sling on at all times for the first week except when you are using the cooling masque. You can take it off for a shower. Then for the second week wear it only at bedtime.
Medications After Facelift & Neck Lift
- Antibiotic: Start your antibiotic the night of operation and take all tablets as directed and until completed.
- Pain Medication: You will be given pain medication for post-operative pain control. If your post-operative pain is not severe, you may take Tylenol instead of the prescription medication. Do not take Tylenol with the pain medicine; often the medication you are prescribed will have Tylenol in it. Do not use more than 3,999 mg of Tylenol in one day. Take with food to decrease the chance of nausea.
- Constipation: Sometimes pain drugs and less physical exercise can cause constipation. You can use any OTC stool softener, such as Metamucil or Colace. Begin laxatives with the narcotic pain drugs to avoid constipation from developing.
- Nausea: Nausea can be a side effect of some pain medications. It is advised to eat a small snack 25 minutes before taking pain medicine. Drink tiny amounts of noncaffeinated drinks (ginger ale, Sprite, Gatorade).
- Medication To Avoid: Do not take medications containing aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Naproxen, etc.) two weeks prior to and two weeks after surgery. These drugs can increase bleeding.
- Substance to Avoid: You should not use alcohol, nicotine, or caffeine, all of which may greatly delay healing.

Nutrition After Facelift & Neck Lift
- Diet: A light low-fat diet is preferable after surgery. Soft foods will be better to avoid extra chewing, which can cause more swelling and discomfort. After your surgery, you can eat a normal diet if you do not feel nauseated or vomit.
- Hydration: Drink eight to ten glasses of water a day to stay hydrated. Avoid drinking for two days if you are still on pain meds.
Bathing After Facelift & Neck Lift
- Two days following your facelift, you can shower and gently wash your hair, avoiding the incision sites. A light shampoo such as Baby Shampoo can be used. Do not wash hair on the day of suture or staple removal.
- Hair Care: Comb your hair gently with a broad, wide-toothed comb. Donโt pull hard on knots and tangles in hair. The hair dryer can only be used to dry your hair when it is set to the chilly setting. No hair products (gel, mousse, hairspray, leave-in conditioners, etc) for at least a week.
- Hot Tubs/Baths/Swimming Pools: No tub baths or jacuzzi until your incisions have healed and cleared by your surgeon, which is usually around six weeks.
Activity After Facelift & Neck Lift
- Movement is Important: Be careful to get up and move around right after your procedure. If you are lying down in bed or on the couch, be sure to move your legs and ankles.
- Glasses: You may use sunglasses and eyeglasses when bandages are removed. Put glasses on top of your head. You can put in contact lenses the day after surgery unless you underwent eyelid surgery with your facelift/neck lift.
- Driving: Do NOT drive a car or make significant decisions until you have been off pain drugs for one day. Use your senses.
- Return to Work: Your return to work will depend on the level of physical activity and public engagement your employment requires, as well as the amount of edema and discolouration you develop. The usual patient may return to work or go out socially one to two weeks after surgery. There is some individual variance in the time one returns to work
- Physical Activity: Do not bend, lift, strain, or do aerobic exercises for two to three weeks or until cleared by your surgeon. Do not hit or bump your face and neck.
- Exercise: You may not resume exercise for three to four weeks post-op or as further recommended by your surgeon. When you get the green light to resume exercise, start slow and work your way back up to your pre-injury activity levels. You might need to start exercising again before the edema subsides.
- Travel: Airline travel is not allowed until one week post-op. This can happen six to eight weeks out from surgery, and you will see more swelling with airplane travel.
- Face Care: Don’t tweeze your eyebrows for one week. After the first week, wash your face twice a day with a mild soap or cleaner using a gentle upward motion. Do not use any harsh chemicals or lotions on your face until all incisions are healed and your doctor has approved that you can return to your normal skincare program.
- Smoking: Smoking should be avoided since it affects the blood supply to the tissues and slows down and hides the healing process.
How To Take Care Of Your Incisions After A Facelift & Neck Lift
- Cleaning your incisions: Soak a cotton swab in hydrogen peroxide. Apply the cotton swab gently over your suture lines three times a day. You will have stitches in front of and behind your ears. Dry the hydrogen peroxide lightly with a dry cotton swab. Finally, use the cotton swab to apply a small amount of Bacitracin ointment to keep the incision sites moist.
- Crusting: Crusts may form around the sutures from time to time. Donโt take this out yourself. This is normal and will resolve itself. Youโll keep the crusting to a minimum by showering every day.
- Sun exposure: Try to avoid as much sun exposure as possible. This will help to optimize healing of scars and reduce edema. The first year, it is important to wear an SPF 35 or more while outdoors. A minor sunburn can cause lasting pigmentation, as well as increase edema and irritation to a healing incision.
- Suture Removal: Do not remove your sutures or staples yourself. Your Surgeon will remove all staples and permanent sutures at your follow-up consultations.
- Makeup: Do not apply make-up for the first four days. When you begin to apply makeup, avoid application directly on healing incisions for at least a week.
What To Expect After Facelift & Neck Lift
- Swelling and Discoloration: Swelling and bruising of the surrounding tissues should be expected. Swelling and bruising may worsen on the second and third day after surgery. It is not unusual for one side of the face to be more swollen than the other. This is transitory and will get better over the next six weeks.
- Bleeding: Some minor bleeding is not unusual at the incision sites for the first several days after surgery. Trying to conduct physical activity, boost your blood pressure by straining on the toilet, sneezing, heavy lifting, or bending forward will aggravate the bleeding and swelling.
- Numbness: Numbness of cheeks, ears, region under the chin is more common and may persist three to six months. Tingling and other unusual sensations near the incision lines are expected and considered typical.
- Lumpiness: You may notice some lumpiness in your cheeks and neck. This is typical and will settle down in a few weeks.
- Pain and itching: Occasional acute shooting pains or itching are typical and will go down in a few weeks. Pain is subjective, but most patients report mild to severe pain after a facelift. Pain is worst at night and can be exacerbated with tension.
- Weak or Dizzy: You may feel some weakness or dizziness. If you try to get up too quickly, it can be worse. Spend a minute going from supine to standing. The feeling of lightheadedness will improve in a few days. Ensure you consume plenty of fluids.
- Depression: You may feel mildly depressed for a period following cosmetic surgery. This is what you see when your face is swollen and black and blue. Remember, it is transitory, and after the healing process is over you will begin to appreciate the results of your operation.
- Scars: Once all stitches have been removed, the scars will be a deep pink color. As time goes by, the pink will fade to white, the scar will soften in firmness, and they will become less noticeable. Everyone heals differently, but it takes around a year for these changes to happen for the scars to look their finest. After consulting with your surgeon, you may use a silicone-based scar gel on your scar to aid in healing.
- Final Result: You will see your final results in six to twelve months since the healing process takes time.
