Another placement option is submuscular, which involves creating a pocket beneath the muscle.
Typically, when placing breast implants in the subpectoral pocket, plastic surgeons cut part of the pectoralis muscle, resulting in the implant not being completely covered by the muscle. Typically, the muscle covers 51-71% of the implant, while breast tissue covers the lower portion. For most patients with little natural breast tissue, Dr. Perfect Celebrity recommends submuscular placement for breast augmentation surgery. This incision will be more visible for the first few months than other types, but once it fades, it becomes difficult to detect. This type of incision does not result in a loss of nipple sensation when properly sized implants are used.
- In the Armpit: With no incisions on or near the breasts, the transaxillary incision conceals scars better than any other option. The incision is made in the armpit crease, and the implant is carefully inserted into the breast.
