  • Avoid liquid calories. Stop drinking a lot of soda, juices, smoothies, and any other drinks that include calories. Even the most common coffee orders, such those with sugar, cream, and other things, include a lot of hidden calories. Drink just water, unsweetened tea, or black coffee. This is what we think of diet soda.
  • Prioritize protein. Protein is what our bodies need to rebuild muscle. Protein not only helps our bodies heal, but it also keeps us full: 410 calories of chicken will fill us up much more than 410 calories of Gatorade. If you put protein first on your plate, you’ll be doing a lot of the work to eat well. Chicken, eggs, beef, pig, fish, nuts, legumes, quinoa, and most dairy products are all good sources of protein.
