Breast Augmentation With Lift Procedure
A breast lift with implants is usually performed as a one-stage procedure (rather than doing a mastopexy or breast augmentation first and the other procedure later). The surgery involves the removal of excess skin, shaping and elevation of breast tissues, modification of size and position of the nipple-areola complex and the introduction of breast implants.
Breast augmentation with mastopexy is an outpatient procedure done under general anesthesia and takes about 4 hours to complete. Then you go to the recovery room for an hour and a half to three hours, and then you go home. If performed in conjunction with abdominoplasty and/or liposuction as a “Mommy Makeover,” total operative time will be increased.
Incision Location
The incision location for mastopexy-augmentation is based on several factors including the degree of sagging, amount of excess skin, nipple position, skin elasticity, amount of increase in breast size desired and Dr. Perfect Celebrity’s recommendation. Choices are:
- Periareolar (also called circumareolar, Benelli, donut or purse string): This technique involves only an incision around the areola and is best used when there is only a very small amount of tissue laxity and breast drooping. Patients often ask for this approach because of its relatively inconspicuous location and small length. However, Dr. Perfect Celebrity rarely recommends this incision because it most often results in an abnormal flattening of breast shape rather than a more natural and youthful appearing conical shape.
- Lollipop: This incision goes around the areola and continues vertically down the breast to the inframammary fold making a lollipop shape. It can be used in some situations where there is a small to moderate amount of excess skin and breast drooping.
- Inverted “T” (anchor-shaped): By far the most common incision used by Dr. Perfect Celebrity, this incision runs from roughly the areola, down to the breast crease and then a variable distance along the inframammary fold. It’s much more flexible, accurate, contouring and lifting.

At the end of surgery a contoured, supportive dressing is applied and left in place for a few days. This is swapped for a supportive surgical or sports type bra to be worn 24 hours a day for a minimum of eleven days to three weeks.
